Having recently published Rommel: Leadership Lessons from the Desert Fox, he examines Rommel's exploits in both world wars and examines what makes an effective leader - and how those qualities differ at higher levels of command. Wednesday, 28th April 2010 | The Battle of Cambrai The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset. 7pm. The Battle of Cambrai on the 20th November 1917 saw the first large scale use of tanks in history. The attack came close to breaking the German lines, and this success is traditionally credited to the 400 tanks employed by the British. To mark the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation Sean Longden, Military Historian and author of the highly acclaimed Dunkirk: The Men They Left Behind, remembers the experiences of the unsung heroes of the British Expeditionary Force. 40,000 British soldiers were left behind by the armada of `little ships`; they fought and died with many being taken into captivity so that the British war effort might live on. Again due to the continued increase in popularity of the Overlord Military Spectacular, the South's premier military vehicle show, Overlord 2010 will retain its 4 days format, commencing on the Friday 28th and covering the complete late may bank holiday weekend. The event run by the Solent Overlord Executive (S.O.E) will be held at its regular site at Horndean, just to the north of Portsmouth.
With 100's of military vehicles, re-enactors and a number of living history group. Complete with a full programme of arena events and a large militaria market, combine to make this a show not to be missed.
