MILWEB - 10 years old on 6th June 2009
On a cold and grey June 6th morning in Normandy, a very significant military event took place – but this was in 1999.
With a captive audience of several thousand military vehicle enthusiasts from all over Europe, www.milweb.net was launched by a mass leafleting campaign in Normandy coupled with E Mailing every known collector. With just 6 trade advertisers and around 60 classified adverts within the first few days, MILWEB settled into its first 10 years of hard work and steady growth to now reach the huge user levels of over 33,500 users a week, generating a staggering 1.2 million page views per month. Those original 6 trade advertisers are still advertising – along with over 300 others.
In 1999, just a few of the military traders had websites or were even aware of the potential of the internet and MILWEB quickly developed sites for a wide range of traders and spring boarded many others into this new media via advertising on MILWEB.
Whereas 10 years ago, the military hobby was fragmented around the world with relatively little international trading, MILWEB, quickly internationalised the hobby and successfully put buyers ands sellers in contact worldwide, resulting in a huge international market, thus propelling classic military vehicles into value and interest levels previously only achieved by classic cars.
MILWEB is now a global portal for the military vehicle hobby, attracting
not just hobbyists, but all buyers and users of surplus military equipment
- including the film industry – helped along by being number one
on Google for Military Vehicles and Deactivated Weapons. With close co-operation
with the IMPS and MVT, MILWEB is an important part of the show scene,
by actively marketing key events as well as concise listings of military
enthusiast events.
Despite this troubled economy, MILWEB’s advertising levels have continued to grow by more than ten percent a year with advertising numbers steadily increasing - importantly the success of these adverts is increasing at the same rate. The last 10 years has seen the military vehicle market leave its “poor relation” status and collectors military vehicles are now regarded as a good investment as values continue to accelerate.
Operated on a full time basis 7 days a week, adverts are handled quickly and professionally, with many advertisers amazed at just how quickly their sales are achieved. “We get an increasingly diverse range of military material advertised and it’s not uncommon for advertisers to call us for our idea of value before placing their advert.
As it celebrates its 10th anniversary on June 6th, MILWEB is proud of its significant role in promoting the military vehicle and militaria hobby.
We would like to thank all our advertisers – traders and enthusiasts and all our thousands of MILWEB users for their support and encouragement over the last 10 years and are looking forward to continuing to help you sell a lot more vehicles, militaria and military surplus for many years to come .
