Operation Bluecoat Battlefield Tour -4
Near Chendolle, our group parked up to look at a sunken lane, sadly now widened beyond recognition. It was the track that Lt Steel Brownlie took to the Vire Vassy road and becaue the second tank got jammed in between the medieval hedgerows on each side, Brownlie found himself isolated behind German lines...
There is just one house nearby and the French family were doing a spot of gardening - just as we pulled away they gave Chris Golding this British 3" Mortar bomb fin and a spent K98 cartridge case - they had dug it up just moments before!
MVT Preston Issacs picked up a couple of pieces of shrapnel from the hedgerow.
