Normandy Staircase - Then & Now
Photo # 1. this photo shows part of a typical Normandy wooden staircase in an ancient house, and a curved piece of wood attached to the step as a repair. This is not one of the normal building comparisons that I produce for this Milweb gallery, here was something I found amusing shown to me by a friend at his Normandy house
Photo # 2. a photo of the underside of the stairs note the woodworm eaten step has been repaired with a plank from an American ration crate and the word 'tins ' can be seen. Many similar repairs such as this one can be seen in older houses and barns that were here during the war.
