Rendezvous With Destiny

Rendezvous with Destiny, A History of the 101st Airborne Division (in World War II) by Leonard Rapport and Arthur Northwood Jr

First edition. Published in 1948 by the Infantry Journal Press, this is the story of one of the finest American units in World War II right through to their training for deployment in Japan after VE Day.

For the historian or Band of Brothers enthusiast it is a wonderful source with highly detailed unit action reports and maps down to street level - for the battlefield tourist it is an essential companion.
When Band of Brothers was being made, the production company bought up every copy they could find of this book, such is its importance.

This edition has particular unique provenance.

It was sent as a gift to LT Newey, the British Liason Officer who was attatched to the 101st up to D Day. The inside front cover and facing page relay the role of Lt Newey and the 101st as portrayed in the "Screaming Eagle" Magazine.

In addition to the highly detailed combat narrative, the appendices include a Roll of Honor for division dead, an accounting of individual decorations, foreign citations awarded to the division and airborne songs and poems.

Original copies are very rare indeed now.

It is a reluctant sale, having owned it for over 25 years, but it isnt now my field of interest.

£250 plus postage.
