Built under WD Contract V3903 dated 17.4.1940 which was for 700 x 30cwt lorries.
This one has parts dated 1940 and 1941 and was completed early 1941.
No known War history but it was sold in 1946 and owned by Turner & Knight Motor Engineers, Ealing until March 1978 when it was sold to Mr A. Beal in Surrey.
It was then stored and remained in its’ original unrestored state until we bought it in 2015. A complete restoration started with a full strip down in the summer of 2016 and this meticulous restoration was completed this July.
Built partly to civilian standards in 1941, which highlight attention to detail by Austin Motors, despite it being destined for the War Department. Early K30s had an open cab and nearly all were abandoned at Dunkirk.
It is an extremely rare survivor. We know of 3 others all in Europe, 2 of which are not restored.
All Austins are rare, but there are a few K2 and K3 Lorries which look similar.
The camouflage is known as the Caunter Pattern which was applied to vehicles in the Western Desert from late 1940 and through 1941.
The colours are Portland Stone, Silver Grey and Slate.
