1972 GAZ-69M Superb

This vehicle had a ground up restoration 6 years ago and is in superb original spec and condition.
Found in Poland and restored there by a specialist the vehicle was in excellent shape when we bought it. The body panels are all original, which were all in lovely straight condition before restoration - as was the chassis. All parts such as seats, screen, wipers, dials, steering wheel etc are original and excellent.
The seat coverings naturally have been redone, but in the correct materials, with the correct horse hair filling and springs - they are not after market repros. As can be seen the vehicle comes with a full canvas tarp and doors.
These have been made from the correct cold-war military grade fabric, known in Poland as ‘Brezent’. It is a particular type of fabric which is tough and has the correct flecked appearance as it should. These were made by a fabricator who used to produce them during the Cold War for the Polish Army.
So it is made with all the correct features and fittings you don’t normally see on cheaper after-market reproductions.
You will see around the doors for example the correct beading that creates a recess for the door to sit in that takes rain away.
Along with the top and doors the, the equipment pouches that are attached to the inside of each of the driver and passenger doors have been fabricated from the same material, as they would have originally been. The GAZ 69 was produced essentially from 1952 - 1972 and changed very little over that time.
However it was common by the early 70s for the army to upgrade the side valve engine to a more powerful over head valve VOLGA 21 engine. We sourced a New Old Stock example of one of these for this restoration which naturally runs beautifully. A similar type upgrade was done to the suspension and wheels. Utilising the then period shocks and wider wheels as used on the UAZ. Along with the Volga engine this makes for a truly serious off road GAZ. The wheels are fitted with the correct and brand new Russian Army tyres to give the vehicle the right look. One would have look long and hard to find another GAZ69 is nice as this - even in Eastern Europe they are extremely hard to find in this shape. (It’s not in the photos, but I have the original military ‘segment’ aerial that attaches to the base as well. Along several other accessories such as original bottle jack etc).
